Apple TV’s horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay led the 2026 Emmy Awards, taking home 14 trophies from 19 nominations across the Primetime ceremony and the Creative Arts Awards. The series claimed the top prize for Best Comedy Series, marking a significant night for the show’s cast and crew.
Created by Katie Dippold, the series is set 40 miles off the coast of New England. It follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, who attempts to save his dying community by converting it into a tourist destination. The town is characterized by superstitious locals and a lack of cell service. As his marketing efforts draw crowds, local legends of a lurking evil prove to be accurate.
Matthew Rhys made history as a double winner that night. He received the award for Lead Comedy Actor for Widow’s Bay, along with a win for the limited series The Beast in Me. Kate O’Flynn won the award for Supporting Actress, while Stephen Root took home the award for Supporting Actor.
Behind the camera, creator Katie Dippold won the Emmy for writing. Director Hiro Murai received the award for directing. According to HorrorFuel, the show’s blend of slow-burn dread and humor captivated voters this season.
