Apogee and developer Trigger Happy Interactive have revealed the VR edition of Total Chaos for SteamVR. The announcement, reported by Bloody Disgusting, confirms that the newly tailored edition will bring the survival horror experience uncomfortably close to the player.
The VR Edition is coming soon at no additional cost to Total Chaos owners on Steam. A standalone Meta Quest version is also available to wishlist now. While the Steam release is tied to existing ownership, the Meta Quest listing operates as a separate standalone product. No word has been given on whether the VR version will be headed to the PlayStation VR2, leaving that platform’s availability unconfirmed in the current reporting.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the edition was revealed during the VR Games Showcase. The developers state that the VR Edition has been thoughtfully adapted around virtual-reality play, rather than simply transferring the original experience into a headset. This approach distinguishes the new release from standard ports by focusing on interaction specific to the medium.
Concrete changes include reworked item locations and resource distribution. Select sections of the game have been altered and rebalanced to suit VR interaction and pacing. The result preserves the oppressive atmosphere, brutal combat, and psychological horror of Total Chaos while offering returning players a fresh journey through Fort Oasis.
Total Chaos originally began as an award-winning total conversion mod for DOOM II before evolving into a fully standalone survival horror title. The game is defined by its oppressive atmosphere and relentless tension. Players are pulled into the abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate island once considered a prosperous home by its coal-mining community. Now, a suffocating presence hangs over its ruins, creating the inescapable sensation that something is always watching.
Monstrosities stalk the island’s darkest corners, trapping anyone daring enough to enter its depths. To survive, players must scavenge materials, craft weapons, carefully manage limited resources, and piece together remnants of forgotten lives. Each discovery brings them closer to the truth behind the downfall of Fort Oasis, and their own connection to it before their sanity runs dry. The VR edition maintains these core survival mechanics while adjusting their presentation for the headset.
The base game is currently available on GOG and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch 2. The new VR edition expands the platform availability to include SteamVR and Meta Quest. This addition allows players to experience the horror of Fort Oasis in a more immersive format without purchasing a new copy if they already own the title on Steam.
