Variety has shared the first images from Tick Fever, an upcoming Finnish body horror movie directed by Sebastian Granskog. The film centers on a codependent couple whose relationship deteriorates as a tick attaches itself to one partner. Elias Salonen and Anna Böhm play Victor and Stella, a couple who cannot make their relationship work but cannot bring themselves to end it. Their anxiety takes physical form when the tick attaches to Victor, and his attempts to remove it pull him further from Stella.
The film is being developed as a U.K.–Nordic co-production and was presented at the Finnish Film Affair. Mia Palmgren and Laura Laaksonen produce the project for Character House. Granskog has stated he hopes to bring the creatures to life with practical effects, noting, “I hope we can accomplish that, at least mostly.” Palmgren added that Granskog has made it clear he wants the tick to be made with practical effects, though she acknowledged the possibility of using some digital assistance.
No release date, distribution details, or additional cast members have been announced. The film remains in development, with the first images serving as the initial public reveal of the project’s visual direction.
