Horror collectors can secure a pre-order for The Genetic Opera on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, with the release scheduled for shelves on October 13. Fangoria reports that Lionsgate’s fall launch will deliver the cult classic rock opera in high definition, allowing audiences to revisit the gothic chaos of GeneCo and its minions as Halloween approaches.

The new physical media package centers on a fresh remaster of the film, which was approved by director Darren Lynn Bousman. This restoration includes special Dolby Vision mastering for the 4K disc, ensuring that the visual presentation meets current high-dynamic-range standards. The release is part of a broader effort to give the 2008 film new life on home video, moving beyond previous iterations with updated technical specifications.

Originally directed by Bousman and based on the stage musical written by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich, The Genetic Opera stars Alexa PenaVega, Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino, Bill Moseley, Paris Hilton, and the late Anthony Head. The film’s narrative is set in a near-future devastated by a worldwide epidemic of organ failures. In this dystopia, a biotech company called GeneCo emerges as a savior, offering life-saving transplants for a steep price. Those who default on their payments are marked for repossession and hunted by the titular REPO man.

The packaging itself has been redesigned to appeal to collectors. The release features new steelbook artwork created by Chuck Styles, alongside a specially designed O-card and fresh artwork printed directly on the discs.

Special features are a major component of this edition. Viewers will find a new audio commentary recorded by Bousman, Smith, and Zdunich.

Legacy content from previous releases has been preserved on the Blu-ray side of the combo pack. This includes a 2007 commentary track featuring the cast and crew, poster galleries, and webisode featurettes. Deleted scenes are also included, accompanied by optional commentary from star Paris Hilton and director Bousman.

The combination of Dolby Vision mastering, newly created bonus content, and exclusive collectible packaging distinguishes this release from earlier versions available on the market. Pre-orders are currently open for those wishing to secure the edition ahead of the October 13 street date, ensuring collectors can experience the gothic chaos of GeneCo as Halloween approaches.
