Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is currently one of the best-reviewed video game adaptations ever released. The film stars Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier stranded in a town where he must fight for survival. Supporting cast members include Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson. Cregger directed the project and co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten, a scribe known for Army of the Dead and John Wick: Chapter 4.

The official synopsis describes Bryan as a courier who unwittingly enters a non-stop race for survival during a horrifying night. In the narrative, Bryan is tasked with delivering an undisclosed, high-level package to Raccoon City. The device is later revealed to be a stabilizing agent needed to create a cure for an outbreak that has turned people into zombie-like creatures. Bryan makes it to Raccoon City but is bitten along the way. He successfully gets the stabilizing agent into the Umbrella Corporation’s hands, though the outcome is not positive for him.

The film ends with the cure failing to leave Raccoon City. Bryan transforms into a giant, monster-like creature just as the National Guard arrives in the city. ComingSoon Horror notes that the movie treats Bryan almost like an NPC in the Resident Evil games. While no sequel has been confirmed, the outlet argues a second movie makes sense given this ending. The publication states that Resident Evil 2 is perfectly set up if Cregger is willing to return. This condition is the specific requirement highlighted for the potential sequel to proceed.
