Damian McCarthy’s Hokum begins streaming exclusively on Hulu on October 10, 2026. The release date places the Irish ghost story exactly three weeks before Halloween, a timing iHorror notes is not an accident. Distributed by NEON, the film follows its theatrical run and home video release to reach home audiences during spooky season.

The film opened theatrically through NEON on May 1, earning $6.4 million in its first weekend. It received a B CinemaScore and a Certified Fresh rating. Adam Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, a novelist who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. He becomes entangled in staff stories about a witch occupying the honeymoon suite, a disappearance, and his own avoided past. The supporting cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Brendan Conroy, Florence Ordesh, Michael Patric, Will O’Connell, and Austin Amelio.

This is McCarthy’s third feature and his first with an American lead. His 2020 film Caveat established his early reputation, while his 2024 film Oddity won the Midnighter audience award at SXSW and the same prize at Overlook. Hokum premiered at SXSW in March. McCarthy is nominated for Best Screenplay at this year’s Chainsaw Awards for Oddity, per Fangoria. Oddity remains available on Shudder.
