Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake has confirmed that series composer Harry Manfredini will write the music for the show’s opening titles. This is not a reuse of archival material.
The production utilizes the font and title-card treatment from Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 film as a deliberate visual reference. Manfredini’s involvement, first reported by Empire, transforms this homage from a visual design choice into a sonic one. The composer who scored Jason’s mother’s rampage in the original film is now underwriting her origin story.
The series is set in 1971, approximately eight years before the events that made Camp Crystal Lake infamous. Linda Cardellini portrays a version of Pamela Voorhees not previously seen in the franchise, depicting a woman on the path to becoming the killer. Callum Vinson plays a young Jason, while Adrienne King, the original “final girl,” has a recurring role. William Catlett joins the cast as the town’s chief of police, indicating the show explores the town’s history beyond a singular monster origin.
Manfredini’s score is one of horror’s most imitated pieces of music. The cue has endured through numerous sequels, a reboot, and a crossover with Freddy Krueger. Crystal Lake will premiere all eight episodes on Peacock on October 15. It has not been detailed whether Manfredini’s involvement extends beyond the main titles to the rest of the score.
