Freestyle Digital Media has acquired Dementium and will release the psychological horror feature across North American home-viewing platforms on August 18. Rue Morgue reports that the release will cover digital HD internet, DVD, cable and satellite services.

The film is directed by Mark Wilson Sunderland, who wrote the screenplay with Clayton Thompson and Kyle Sunderland. Its cast includes Michael Aaron Milligan, Karynn Moore, Dani Deetté, Kristen Rakes, Adam Boyer, Doug Dawson, Murretta Moss, Luke Speakman, Alexa Jennings, Andrew Hunter and JJ Madaris.

Rue Morgue also published a first look at the trailer. The available announcement does not name a theatrical opening, and its confirmed North American plan is focused on the digital, disc, cable and satellite release scheduled for August 18.

A murder mystery shaped by visions

The official synopsis centers on Wyatt Bailey, played by Milligan. Wyatt retreats to a secluded cabin on a Christmas tree farm because he wants to uncover the truth about his mother’s murder. The one person who might know what happened is his father, but Wyatt finds him dead and wrapped in plastic in the trunk of a car.

Wyatt then turns to DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, in an attempt to contact his father’s spirit. He wants to ask whether his father killed his own wife. The drug-fueled effort leads into a series of visions involving memory, desire and fear.

Two supernatural figures pull Wyatt in different directions. His former girlfriend Cora, played by Moore, encourages him to relive their first date and offers the prospect of love and redemption. At the same time, a malevolent witch pursues him and pushes him toward violence and despair.

The synopsis describes Wyatt as fighting for his soul while trying to decide whether learning the truth will free him or destroy him. Those story details establish the film’s mixture of a family murder mystery, psychedelic experience and supernatural threat without disclosing how Wyatt’s confrontation ends.

Confirmed release information

Freestyle’s acquisition gives Dementium a specific date and a defined North American distribution plan. The current report confirms August 18 for digital HD internet, DVD, cable and satellite availability. It does not provide individual platform names, pricing, a Blu-ray edition or an international release schedule.

Sunderland said the production was organized around trust, shared ownership and allowing the people who made the film to participate in its success. Beyond Milligan as Wyatt and Moore as Cora, the current synopsis does not map the remaining cast members to named roles. No runtime or rating is included in the release report.
