Producer Carter Swan is developing a film adaptation of The Crying Boy, the Keenspot comic created by Niall O’Rourke and Rob Moran. Horror News Network reports the attachment, citing Deadline’s announcement.

The comic follows a widow trying to rebuild her life in Queens after her husband’s violent death. Her young son becomes attached to a painting of a crying child, but the image contains an ancient demon. The family’s attempt to recover from one tragedy becomes a fight to prevent another.

O’Rourke welcomed Swan’s involvement after the producer read the screenplay and responded to the comic. Swan’s horror credits include the new Resident Evil film, making this another adaptation of an existing genre property.

The announcement concerns development and a producer’s attachment. It does not identify a director or cast, set a production start, or establish a release date. Those details remain open as the project moves forward.
