Forbidden Worlds’ The Big Scream: European Slaycation opens October 22 at Bristol Megascreen with a programme of locally supported horror shorts. Horror Society reports that the festival has partnered with BFI NETWORK South West for the screening.

The selection includes Helena Houghton’s Beltane, Gabriela Staniszewska’s Yummy Mummy, Siôn Marshall Waters’ Pen Mari, Sophie and Dan Mair’s The Thing That Ate the Birds, and Theo Watkins’ Lode. Their premises range from a camping trip disturbed by the Unseelie Fae to a demon encountered in a laundry basket.

The films will screen on the venue’s 18-by-15-metre screen. A drinks and networking session follows, with filmmakers, the BFI NETWORK South West team and representatives from Bristol production-services company Films@59.

The event gives the regional filmmakers a large-format showcase within the festival’s opening night. Tickets and current programme details are available from Forbidden Worlds’ official website. The announcement concerns this specific October 22 screening, rather than a wider release for the five shorts.
